Bob saw this rainbow pillar and called me out. How cool is this? Had to grab the camera...

Exquisite ... it looks as if you painted it very gently with a soft brush
This is unique. I am glad you were able to capture this picture. They don't last long, and you seldom see this. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous and I have to agree with Daryl, it looks as if you painted it, gently! What a terrific capture, Elisabeth!
Enjoy your weekend!

A sight to see. :)

Great shot of the mock sun, interesting aren't they? Thanks for sharing Elizabeth:)

"Mock sun?" What is a "mock sun?" Does anyone know? That is what was there and that is what I shot. Very unusual...have only seen a similar pillar of light one other time and that was a vertical pink pillar reaching down to earth during a sunset. Skies are amazing. I love watching. Never know what will show up.
Wonderful shot, love the sepia tone to it, with the faint splash of color.
This is spectacular, a painting it is...
It is caused by the sunlight refracting through ice crystals in the air. Some call it a second sun or a mock sun. A very good photo catch.
Yes it is! Very extraordinary.
Lovely rainbow skywatch Friday post.

I'm sure there is a name for that phenomenon, but "mock sun" is not one I've heard before.
If you never have visited Astronomy Picture of the Day, I recommend it, there is a link on my blog. They have all sorts of sky pictures in the archive.
Wonderful image!
A great capture of the sun dog, so lovely amongst the wealth of clouds. A sun dog is a sattelite rainbow around the sun at the four points of the compas., seldom seen as all four. It usually occurs when the sun is low and there is ice in the clouds.
It was amazing how you spotted the rainbow. :)
the subtle quality of your image is quite appealing.
Such a sweet photo peeking through to rainbows, what a lucky find.
Wow this color in yhe sky!
Great shot!
