The weekend workshop was great. Talk about feeling renewed and rejuvenated! I am ready and rarin' to go. "Lights, camera, action!" Back on track and excited about the projects racing around in my head, it is time to make thoughts and dreams real.
Wood, as it ages, takes on a patina that cannot be reproduced, (although often people try their darnedest to do that). The lives of previous owners can be seen and felt when in the presence of old, cared-for pieces of furniture. A burn mark here...a gash over there...rings from canning jars, cups and cast iron pots tell tales from the past.

Serendipity Twice in One Day
At Saturday's flea market, we unexpectedly met, for the first time, one of the partners associated with the antique sale where I found the Chinese Tang-style vintage/antique horse. What a pleasant surprise.
Also, found a fabulous old door complete with hardware. Old peeling paint, some dried moss, rust and texture galore. I couldn't believe my eyes. Spotted it from across a crowded parking lot and scurried over there as fast as possible. It is wonderful and I will post as soon as we get it dried out. While drying, it is getting lighter; however, a dolly may be necessary for moving here and there. I can hardly wait to shoot it alone and as a backdrop.

Eureka!
Attended the last day of a three-day antique sale today. What a surprise. Found this wonderful, old cast iron Chinese Tang-style horse.

P.S. Twenty-six years ago I was fascinated with photographs of museum pieces in books. In the early days, I took photographs using studio lights and soft boxes, then moved into using natural light. I love still life images and thoroughly enjoy the challenge of shooting them. This horse image sums up the process.
I am pleased with how this journey has played itself out and look forward to doing more. So...the "eureka" is for two things...first, finding this piece at a very reasonable price and second, being able to capture it backlit.
Wishing you all happy shooting!

The End of Poppies for This Year?
Poppy season is winding down. This morning we didn't see any more buds. However, we will keep looking.
