Am Back Shooting

Things to remember when shooting sunsets:

1.  Wait for it.
2.  Look for movement.
3.  Watch the light.
4.  And, very important.....Patience, patience and more patience.

Light

Abstract created by light last night.   The evening skies remind me of paintings by Leonardo Nierman.  Years ago, I saw an original oil of the moon which Neirman created.  The moon seemed to move.  I still see that image in my mind.

Light and Mood

Experiment:   Sit and watch light move around a room.  Pay attention to colors and how the mood changes from moment to moment.

Poppy

Playing around with poppies again.   This is an ongoing challenge because I love poppies with their prickly stems and crepe paper textures.

Proving An Idea (Theory)

Today I am going to run a series of tests to prove a theory I have had for many years. This should be interesting and if this pans out the results will fly in the face of logic when it comes to light and photography. Sometimes logic needs to be challenged. My fingers are crossed and I believe I can pull this off...so...we shall see. Oh, and this test may evolve into a series of tests and may take longer than a day. Am looking forward to this....FUN!

Light Is Everything

One pink tulip appeared in our circle garden. As the sun descended, I began shooting.

Suggestion: Pay attention to how light illuminates your subject. Walk around. Circle the subject. Bend down. Bend over. Bend to the side. Change the angle of your camera from horizontal to vertical. Here's an additional trick...if something doesn't look quite right in your viewfinder, walk three steps to the left, or to the right, backward or forward.

This is my first time entering Sepia Scenes. My first love is monochrome and in particular deep sepia-toned images. I feel strongly that most images do not translate well in sepia. Antiques and old things work best (in my opinion). So, we will see how many "scenes" I can shoot that "work."

And The Sun Shone Through

Heavy fog obliterated the mountains this morning.

Then out came the sun.

Monochrome Weekly--Trunk

Thanks to Aileni for hosting Monochrome Weekly. To see other participant's images, or to enter, go to:

Have decided to use the new camera for black and white images and am experimenting with light and toner shades. Sepia is the perfect partner for melancholy images.

This old trunk was found in a church basement almost 50 years ago.

Studying Light and Color--2

The study of light and color is a lifelong process. Yesterday's grapes are still in process. Today I think I will let this image stand as is. Different monitors will have an effect on what is seen online. The proof is in the printed proof. That's the bottom line.

Studying Light and Color

Highlights are important. The above image has some of the original highlights while the image below has been dramatically altered. I like the top image more than the extremely altered one.

Color is a matter of preference. I prefer a subtle, natural look rather than vibrancy.

Abandoned

At the estate sale last Thursday, this basket jumped out at me. So, had to bring it home (complete with dust and straw). Set it up today and struggled with lighting. Getting the sun to shine through the side was important and I may play with different angles and settings to improve on the lighting. The goal: to create a look and mood of abandonment.

Watching light across the hills and mountains is fascinating. Here the sun came out after a heavy rain. North Carolina in the spring can be awesome.
